The Iron Horse

I've heard it said so many ways,
"Those my friends were the good old days",
But the times I think that were the best,
Are the early days of the Wild West.

When a cowboy and his horse would roam,
And a prairie was their only home.

The mutual feeling between man and horse,
Got them through many a dangerous course.

He would jump aboard with one long stride,
Dig in his heels and go for a ride.

Scenery flashing by as the horse makes speed,
The wind in his face a wonderful feeling indeed.

A lean to the side, a pull on the rein,
Changing direction, cornering once again.

The thrill of power as he races along,
Pounding hooves singing their own sweet song.

Just the two of them, a team, O what peace,
Not shackled to others by society’s leash.

Freedom and serenity of this kind,
Work wonders on a troubled mind.

But the horse as transport has long disappeared,
The nearest substitute, for times now geared,
A mode of travel I feel a cowboy would like,
'Tis a wonderful contraption, called a motor bike.

Being the owner of one, I feel as he,
As we speed along, my Harley and me.
